Bold claim: Eurovision fans deserve a UK entry that fizzes with creativity and curiosity, and Look Mum No Computer really brings that spark. The YouTuber-turned-experimental singer-songwriter, whose real name is Sam Battle, has been named the United Kingdom’s representative for Eurovision 2026, taking the stage in Vienna this May. This announcement comes from the BBC, signaling a bold choice that leans into innovation and personality.
Battle launched his YouTube channel back in 2016, building a sizeable audience with his inventive approach to music. Across his channels and platforms, he has racked up more than 85 million views and grown his following to about 1.4 million fans. He describes himself as a devoted Eurovision admirer, and his excitement about joining the long-running competition is clear: he calls it a magical tradition that brings joy to millions every year, and he views carrying the UK’s banner as a serious and heartfelt honor.
“I’ve been quietly toiling away for a long time, crafting, writing, and producing my own visions from the ground up, and I’ve documented every step,” he said. “I’m bringing every ounce of creativity to my live performances, and I can’t wait for audiences to hear and see what we’ve created. I hope Eurovision is ready to get synthesised.” The song he will perform in Austria has not yet been revealed.
Based in Kent, Battle began his music career in 2014 as the frontman of the indie rock group Zibra, which made an appearance at Glastonbury in 2015 for BBC Introducing. Beyond conventional instruments, he has built a devoted online following for his unconventional electronic contraptions, including toy-based organs (made from Furby toys and Game Boys), a synthesiser-equipped bicycle, flame-throwing keyboards, and even a Star Wars droid orchestra.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, expressed strong enthusiasm about the selection: “We are absolutely thrilled to have Look Mum No Computer representing the UK at Eurovision in Vienna 2026. His bold vision, distinctive sound, and electric performance style make him a truly unforgettable artist.” She added that Battle embodies the qualities the UK aims to showcase on Eurovision’s world stage—creativity, ambition, and a uniquely British sense of humor. She believes he will make the nation proud when the international audience tunes in this May.
