Amazon Game Studios has ended its publishing agreement with Maverick Games, citing a focus on projects that leverage Amazon's unique strengths and scale. This decision allows Maverick the flexibility to find a publishing partner whose strategic priorities are better aligned with bringing their game to market. The open-world, narrative-driven driving title, which was in development, will continue to progress as strongly as planned, according to Maverick co-founder and COO Harinder Sangha. He stated that they are in active dialogue with partners who share their long-term ambition for the IP and look forward to sharing more later this year. This move comes as Amazon also shut down Glowmade's online multiplayer dungeon crawler, King of Meat, and paused development of its MMO New World: Aeternum due to redundancies. Maverick Games, founded in 2023 by former Playground Games developers, is led by studio head and creative director Mike Brown, who previously served as creative director on the Forza Horizon series. This decision highlights Amazon's strategic shift in its publishing ventures, allowing Maverick to explore new partnerships and maintain its development momentum.
